The Last Song

last song

Last Monday at around 2:30A.M. I just finished reading The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks. My eyes got puffed and sore from crying. Oooh the books really sad but there’s so much lesson that you can learn from it. It will also makes you reminisce to your rebellious days.. Aside from A Walk To Remember, this is another Nicholas Sparks’ fave of mine.

From Wikipedia
The Last Song is a 2009 novel by American author Nicholas Sparks. The Last Song is Sparks’ fifteenth published novel, and was written specifically as the basis for the film adaptation by the same name. It was released on September 8, 2009 by Grand Central Publishing. The story revolves around the summer of Ronnie Miller’s seventeenth year, during which she is sent to stay with her estranged father. Through their shared love of music, the duo reconnect.

This is a good book for rebellious teenagers or those with issues with their divorce parents. I really hope that the movie is as good as the book. Keeping my fingers cross! ;-)

Hush, hush

I just read a book about a fallen angel and the tittle of the book is Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. My Ate’s the one who bought the book and after she read it, I read it also and I’m sooo loving it! :kiss

What the book is about/plot:

For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She’s never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch came along.

With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment.

But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora’s not sure who to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can’t decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.

For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen – and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life. -Hush, hush

Oooh very intriguing, right? When I read this book I cannot put it down because it is really a page turner! Every page you’ll gonna love it! Promise! Happy reading! :D

The Time Traveller’s Wife

TimeTravellers Wife

My sister bought this book and I’ve been reading it for a while now. I’m the first one to read it, and I can’t spill whether I like it or not because my sister had threatened me not to say a word about the book until she had read it, too. :x Sorry folks my mouth is shut but here’s what I’ve read about Audrey Niffenegger, author of the book and also I’ll share with  you some parts of the story..

The Time Traveler’s Wife, published in 2003, is the debut novel of American author Audrey Niffenegger. It is a love story about a man with a genetic disorder that causes him to time travel unpredictably, and about his wife, an artist, who has to cope with his frequent absences and dangerous experiences. Niffenegger, frustrated in love when she began the work, wrote the story as a metaphor for her failed relationships. The tale’s central relationship came to her suddenly and subsequently supplied the novel’s title. The novel, which has been classified as both science fiction and romance, examines issues of love, loss, and free will. In particular, it uses time travel to explore miscommunication and distance in relationships, while also investigating deeper existential questions.

Henry begins time traveling at the age of five, jumping forward and backward relative to his own timeline. He is unable to control his travels: when he leaves, where he goes, or how long his trip will last. His destinations are tied to his subconscious—he most often travels to places and times related to his own history. Certain stimuli such as stress can trigger Henry’s time traveling; he often goes jogging to keep calm and remain in the present. He also searches out pharmaceuticals in the future that may be able to help control his time traveling. He also seeks the advice of a geneticist, Dr. Kendrick. Henry cannot take anything with him into the future or the past; he always arrives naked and then struggles to find clothing, shelter and food. He amasses a number of survival skills including lock-picking, self defense and pickpocketing. Much of this he learns from older versions of himself. - Wikipedia -

Happy weekend! :hihi

How Starbucks Saved My Life

starbs

I am going to read a book called How Starbucks Saved My Life: A Son of Privilege Learns To Live Like Everyone Else The tittle is pretty interesting, right? Wait till you read the plot of the story, I think it gets even better and more interesting…

In his fifties, Michael Gates Gill had it all: a big house in the suburbs, a loving family, and a top job at an ad agency with a six-figure salary. By the time he turned sixty, he had lost everything except his Ivy League education and his sense of entitlement. First, he was downsized at work. Next, an affair ended his twenty-year marriage. Then, he was diagnosed with a slow-growing brain tumor, prognosis undetermined. Around the same time, his girlfriend gave birth to a son. Gill had no money, no health insurance, and no prospects.

One day as Gill sat in a Manhattan Starbucks with his last affordable luxury brooding about his misfortune and quickly dwindling list of options, a 28-year-old Starbucks manager named Crystal Thompson approached him, half joking, to offer him a job. With nothing to lose, he took it, and went from drinking coffee in a Brooks Brothers suit to serving it in a green uniform. For the first time in his life, Gill was a minority–the only older white guy working with a team of young African-Americans. He was forced to acknowledge his ingrained prejudices and admit to himself that, far from being beneath him, his new job was hard. And his younger coworkers, despite having half the education and twice the personal difficulties head ever faced, were running circles around him.

The other baristas treated Gill with respect and kindness despite his differences, and he began to feel a new emotion: gratitude. Crossing over the Starbucks bar was the beginning of a dramatic transformation that cracked his world wide open. When all of his defenses and the armor of entitlement had been stripped away, a humbler, happier and gentler man remained. One that everyone, especially Michael as kids, liked a lot better.

Hhhhmm, very intiguing. I can’t wait to read it! I hope it is really this good.

For One More Day

mitch_albom_for_one_more_day

I have read the book For One More Day by Mitch Albom. It’s a sad book for me because after reading it, it makes me want to hug my mommy but she’s not here anymore. Last Sunday (Mother’s Day), I kept on looking at her picture and missed her terribly! :-( This book is very inspirational. It makes you realize how much our mother eternally loves us even if we had taken them for granted.

For One More Day is about Charles “Chick” Benetto, the man who gets the chance to spend one more day with his mother, who died 8 years earlier.. It is about how he had taken his mother for granted his whole life then caught up with all the guilt after she died, he became wasted and tried to commit suicide. This is where he get to spend one more day with his mother in a between life and death world.

For One More Day will make you realize the power of a mother’s love. This book is dedicated to all the wonderful moms who never stop loving us and sacrifices so much just to make us happy.

Love you so much mommy! I really wish you’re still here…

Train Man

trainman_novel

I’ve been reading the international bestseller novel from Japan “Train Man” by Hitori Nakano. It’s pretty interesting because you’ll find yourself reading an internet chatroom threads, not an ordinary novel for sure. The story goes like this..

Train Man is a geek who is not brave enough but still defends the ladies from an obnoxious drunk on a Tokyo train. The girl that sat next to him sends him a thank-you pair of pricey Hermes teacups. Train Man doesn’t know what to do next so he turns to the world’s largest online message board and asks for help. Their love story is told as a series of Internet chatroom threads:As he unveils his progress and each new crisis-from making conversation to deciding what to wear on a date, and beyond. In return, he receives advices, encouragements, warnings and sympathy from the anonymous netizens. Train Man also discovers that we really do live in a universe where anything can happen.

A simple story that became a multimedia sensation in Japan, generating a smash-hit TV series, a blockbuster film, and multiple manga series. Interesting!
